West Lothian woman ‘shaken’ after lorry ‘lost control and crashed’ in snow storm

A West Lothian[1] woman was left "shaken" after she witnessed a lorry crash through a barrier in wintery conditions. On Saturday morning, November 23, Daiquiri Dusk was driving along the slip road onto the M8 at junction 4 Heartlands before a lorry "lost control in the snow". It comes as Storm Bert hit the capital on Saturday morning bringing with it heavy snow and icy conditions.

Many car accidents were reported by police. READ NEXT- Stark clip shows 'carnage' on busy Edinburgh road as cars 'stuck in snow'[2] READ NEXT- Edinburgh M8: Heavy snow triggers major delays as skidding cars 'block road'[3]

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Daiquri explained she and the lorry driver were left uninjured but she made sure to check he was okay. Images at the scene show the lorry after it crashed through the barrier with a heavy blanket of snow surrounding the vehicle. Daiquiri added: "It happened just before 11.30am.

I am okay, neither myself or the lorry driver were injured. He did not hit my car, but the lorry is damaged from crashing through the barrier at the side of the motorway. Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters[4] for more headlines straight to your inbox

"I stopped to check if he was okay. A kind man in a black SUV also stopped to see if we were alright. Then another SUV arrived, with two ambulance personnel inside and they went to check on the driver.

"I am home safely now, but very shaken by the incident." While the snow has eased across Edinburgh and the Lothians, disruption is still expected as roads have been branded as unsafe to drive on by motorists. Throughout the morning, cars were left stranded in snow and Lothian Buses previously withdrew all their services.

A Met Office forecast reads: "Storm Bert is quite slow moving and only really clears from Monday. The start of the week will continue to be unsettled, with strong winds and showers in the forecast. Although temperatures will be around average for most places, strong winds mean it will feel rather cold."
