Fundraiser to help man seriously injured in lorry collision

A GoFundMe page was created to support the family of Chris Bush, who was seriously injured in the collision, outside Acclaim Logistics, on the Somerton Industrial Estate in Cowes. Police were called to the scene just before 2pm on Thursday (November 21) last week, after a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. An air ambulance landed near Booker Wholesale on Three Gates Road in Cowes that afternoon, and Chris was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital. Chris, aged in his 60s, suffered serious injuries and is receiving treatment in hospital. A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said its officers were investigating the incident.

The County Press approached Acclaim Logistics for comment, but the firm declined to issue a statement.

The GoFundMe page says the incident has left Chris in a "critical condition" and that his injuries are "life-changing". Chris requires surgery, but is currently on life support -- and will remain so for an extended period. In an update today (Tuesday, November 26), Chris is described as stable and there has been no changes.

He is due to have his ribs operated on tomorrow (Wednesday), then will have his hips operated on at a later date in a procedure predicted to take more than seven hours. Chris's wife, Allison, is staying at Meller House -- a facility that provides accommodation for the relatives of patients, who have accessed hospital services, long distances from home, or in emergency situations, situated in the grounds of Southampton General. It is run by the Southampton Hospitals charity, but costs around GBP700 per month, on top of day-to-day living expenses. Michaela Frost, who set up the GoFundMe page, said it would be "nice to take this financial strain off of them as they will not be working". So far, GBP3,338 towards a GBP15,000 target has been raised since the GoFundMe was set up on Sunday.

She also states any funds left over will be donated to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, who transported Chris to hospital.

"Over the years, Allison and Chris have helped so many of us, financially and spiritually, and we feel that in this distressing time, it's time to give back to them," Michaela adds.

"We would really appreciate any contributions (little or big), to allow Allison to stay on the hospital grounds, to be close to her husband whilst he is in hospital."
