Busy road to be ‘closed for some time’ after lorry crashes into two buildings
A major road in Shropshire is set to be closed for some time following a crash, police have said. The A49 in Shrewsbury is closed following a collision between a lorry and two properties. The driver of the lorry was injured in the incident between Lower Pulley Lane and Sharpstone Lane at around 5.20am this morning (Monday, November 11).
The road has been closed for around five hours at time of writing and will remain so ‘for some time’. A spokesperson for West Mercia Police told BirminghamLive: “We received a call around 5:20am this morning (11 November) with a report of a road traffic collision on the A49 between Lower Pulley Lane and Sharpstone Lane. “Officers arrived to find a lorry had collided with two properties. The driver sustained injuries not thought to be life threatening. The road is likely to be closed for some time.”
National Highways West Midlands added on X at 10.22am: “The #A49 remains closed in both directions between #A5 #A5112 (at Dobbies Island near #BaystonHill #Shrewsbury (south) and #B4371 (#Churchstretton).
“A lorry has left the carriageway and hit a building.” A diversion has been put in place in the area.
Southbound road users are advised to follow the Hollow Circle diversion symbol on road signs.
- At the junction of the A5/A49 take the exit to the A5 southbound
- Leave the A5 at the A458 junction and take the A458 southbound
- Continue until you reach the junction with the B4368 at Morville
- Take the B4368 westbound and rejoin the A49 at Craven Arms
Northbound road users are advised to follow the Hollow Triangle diversion symbol on road signs.
- At the junction of the A49/B4371 Church Stretton take the B4371 eastbound
- Continue along the B4371 to Much Wenlock
- At the junction with the B4371/A458 take the A458 northbound
- Continue along the A458 northbound to the junction with the A5
