Woman dies after lorry and car crash on A30

A woman died at the scene of a crash on the A30 last night[1], Tuesday, October 15. Emergency services were called to the collision at Whiddon Down at around 10pm. The crash took place on the Exeter-bound carriageway[2] and involved a Scania lorry and a silver Kia Ceed.

The car passenger, a woman in her 40s, from Helston, in Cornwall, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the Kia, a man in his 60s and also from Helston, suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter[3] Hospital by ambulance.

At the time of writing on Wednesday morning (9am), the A30 remains shut heading eastbound as investigation work takes place. A diversion route is in place[4] for motorists to follow. Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police closed the A30 for an examination of the scene and for the vehicles to be recovered. Highways are currently on scene working to clear and reopen the road.

“Officers are conducting enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. They would like to hear from anyone who may have captured the incident on dashcam footage. Please contact police online[5] or by telephone on 101, quoting log 835 of 15/10/2024.”
