Woman died after being hit by lorry when car aquaplaned on A30

A ‘beautiful’ and ‘funny’ woman is believed to have lost her life in a tragic road collision after the vehicle she was travelling in aquaplaned and was then struck by a HGV. Clare Laskey, of Cornwall, passed away at the scene of the crash near the Whiddon Down junction on October 15, at 11.02pm. An inquest recently opened into the 47-year-old’s death.

It was confirmed she was born in Southampton and lived on a farm in the Lizard in Cornwall. She was described as being single and worked as a steward. Senior coroner Philp Spinney said: “The circumstances of the death are Clare and her partner were driving on the A30[1] eastbound past Whiddon Down with her partner identified as the driver and Clare in the front seat passenger.

It is currently understood the vehicle has hit standing water and potentially aqua planed causing the vehicle to go onto its side.” “It is currently believed Clare was getting out of the vehicle when their vehicle was struck by a HGV driving on the A30. Clare sadly passed away.

The precise medical cause of death has not yet been ascertained at this stage.” The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing to be held at a later date. Following the crash, police appealed for witnesses to come forward stating the incident had involved a silver Kia Ceed and a Scania articulated lorry, at around 10pm.

Clare’s family shared a loving tribute. They said: We are devastated by the loss of our beautiful, loyal and funny daughter, partner, sister and aunt in such tragic circumstances. “She will be sadly missed by us all including her friends and the amazing Lizard community.

Forever in our hearts.”
