Astonishing pictures show dramatic scenes after lorry crashes across A56

Dramatic pictures show the aftermath of a lorry crash which brough a major Lancashire route to a standstill. The A56 was closed in both directions today after a lorry overturned and hit the central reservation. Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision in Haslingden and police closed the bypass from the McDonald's roundabout to the junction with Grane Road.

National Highways said traffic conditions were expected to return to normal between 6.45pm and 7pm.

Pictures take from the air show the lorry spread across both sides of the dual carriageway. Police confirmed that an HGV overturned and hit the central reservation. A spokesman said no injuries had been reported.
