Severe M5 traffic after crash sparks huge tailbacks
There are severe delays on the M5 this afternoon (Friday, August 23) as the weekend getaway begins. According to National Highways, there is an hour delay heading northbound between Tiverton and Taunton with five miles of tailbacks. The bank holiday traffic has been worsened by a crash between junction 26 for Wellington and junction 25 for Taunton.
All traffic was briefly held on the northbound carriageway at around 2pm but has since been released. However, there are still long delays on the motorway and motorists should leave extra time for their journeys. There is also traffic chaos on the southbound carriageway between Thornbury and Weston-super-Mare with around 21 miles of tailbacks reported.
