Man killed on A12 after lorry crash that closed road for hours

A man who was involved in a collision with an HGV on the A12 sadly died from his injuries. Emergency services rushed to the scene near Sandon on the A12 on Monday (August 5) morning. The collision was reported to police during the morning rush hour.

On Wednesday Essex Police said in a statement the man, aged 44, had tragically died at the scene. The road was closed for around four hours[1] resulting in large queues on the A12 and at the Howe Green interchange. The East of England Ambulance Service Trust had previously said on Monday following the incident that the male victim had been hospitalised in a serious condition.

We were called with reports of a serious collision involving a pedestrian and an HGV at about 8.55am on Monday 5 August.

“We closed the road while emergency services worked but sadly, the 44-year-old man died at the scene. Our investigation into the incident is ongoing.” A spokesperson for ECFRS said at the time: “Firefighters were called to an incident on the A12 between Junction 17 and Junction 18 at 9.01am this morning.

On arrival crews confirmed it was one casualty trapped under a vehicle.

They worked to rescue the casualty by 9.24am and left the incident with the Police and Ambulance Service.”
