A pedestrian in his 40s from Elsenham died in the collision, which happened at about 3.15pm.

Police attended alongside colleagues from East of England Ambulance Service and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance. A police spokesman said: "Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the pedestrian, a man aged in his forties, sadly died. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

Our thoughts are with them at this sad time."

The road reopened at 6am on Tuesday (August 6) - almost 15 hours after the initial reports to police.
