Huge M6 delays after lorry crash near Spaghetti Junction

Drivers were stuck in huge delays on the M6 northbound today after a lorry crash[1] which left a driver injured. Several lanes were blocked between J5, for Castle Bromwich, and J6 for Spaghetti Junction following the collision. Paramedics and police were called to the scene[2].

Medics treated a driver for non-serious injuries before he was transported to Heartlands Hospital for further treatment. Two lorries and a car were involved in the crash, according to traffic website Inrix. But West Midlands Ambulance Service[3] reported attending a ‘two-car’ collision.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service[5] spokesperson told us: “We were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the M6 at 12.43pm today. One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

“One driver, a man, was assessed and found with non-serious injuries. He was conveyed to Heartlands Hospital for further treatment.”

Traffic was held on the M6 northbound[6] after the crash. Drivers were struck in 45-minute delays at 4pm – down from one-hour delays earlier in the day. The latest update on Inrix, as of 5pm, reads: “Long delays and two lanes closed due to recovery work and accident.

Two lorries and a car involved on M6 northbound between J5 and J6. “Congestion to J4A (M42 Interchange). Traffic is also congested on the opposite side due to the onlookers.

“Lanes one and two are closed.

At 4.35pm, all traffic was held for around five minutes to assist with the recovery process.”
