Alarming Hackney crash destroys lorry as it bursts into flames after hitting railway bridge

A lorry crashed into a railway bridge in East London causing a huge fire early this morning (Tuesday, August 20). The London Fire Brigade[1] (LFB) were first called at 2.30am to reports of the collision, where a lorry had hit a bridge on Mabley Street in Hackney[2]. The lorry burst into flames and was totally alight.

Photos from the scene show flames engulfing the front of the lorry, with terraced houses lining the street it’s on. Two men who were in the lorry when it crashed left the vehicle before the fire brigade arrived, the LFB said. It appears that no-one was injured in the blaze.

In a video posted on X, the burnt out shell of the lorry can be seen still on Mabley Street, with a police car blocking access to the road. The LFB said the lorry was completely destroyed by the fire. A spokesperson for the LFB said: “Firefighters were called to a lorry alight on Mabley Street in Hackney.

One lorry collided with a bridge and was destroyed by fire. Two men left the vehicle before the arrival of the Brigade. There are no reports of any injuries.

“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took more than 20 calls to the blaze. The Brigade was first called at 2.30am and the incident was over for firefighters at 0344. Two fire engines, one Fire Rescue Unit and around 15 firefighters from Edmonton, Leyton and Islington fire stations attended the scene.”
