Paramedics treated one person at the scene. The air ambulance landed on grounds behind the Bat and Ball pub in Wrotham Road shortly after and took the person to Kings College Hospital for further treatment.

A worker at Popeyes takeaway in Parrock Street said: “The truck is blocking the road and traffic is being diverted via Parrock Street. There is one police car still there.” An office worker close to the scene said: “They’ve cordoned the road off with police tape, and the road is still currently shut.

“There was a lot of police and ambulances. The helicopter landed nearby. I was working but I heard the sirens and the sound of the helicopter.

A police spokesman confirmed the pedestrian’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
