Freeport man charged for burglary of 2 cars

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) – Police say they found a 20-year-old who tried to break into a garage Wednesday.

Joshua Heller of Freeport is charged with two counts of burglary from a motor vehicle, attempted burglary to a building and theft with a prior conviction.

Just after 5 a.m. July 10, Freeport police responded to the 700 block of W. Chestnut Street for a masked man attempting to break into a garage.

When they arrived, they say they saw Heller running from the garage.

Police say Heller stole property from inside two cars, one in the 900 block of Monroe Drive and one in the 800 block of Jefferson Drive.

Officers say they found stolen property discarded near where Heller was located.

Heller was taken to Stephenson County Jail pending a detention hearing.
