FDA warns against eating certain Freeport oysters due to health risks

FREEPORT (WGME) - The FDA is warning you not to eat specific oysters from freeport that can cause food poisoning or worse. Here's an example of the shellfish tag you should check on your container: The contaminated oysters were harvested between June 19th and July 16th from two specific areas.

They may be contaminated with a kind of bacteria that can make you sick, and even be deadly to those with compromised immune systems.

If you have these oysters, you are asked to throw them away and if you've eaten them and have symptoms like bloody stool and vomiting, you should be seen by a doctor.

There have been 5 reported cases of the illness in Maine so far.
