Three lanes of M6 to be closed all day after lorry crash causes fuel spillage

THREE lanes of the M6 northbound will remain closed all day for resurfacing after a 'serious' crash involving a tanker and four lorries. The crash occurred at around 4am on Tuesday, June 4, between junction 18, for Holmes Chapel, and junction 19, for Tabley. A man was seriously injured and taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, but his condition is not believe to be life threatening.

Cheshire Police reported three-hour delays and a tailback of 15 miles plus during the morning rush hour, which is ongoing. The damaged lorries have now been recovered, but left diesel, engine oil, and hydraulic fluid spilled across the carriageway. Following an assessment by Highways England, three lanes of the carriageway will need to be resurfaced, leaving only one lane open into the evening rush hour and beyond even beyond.

Local diversions remain in place, but drivers are being urged to avoid the area or delay their journeys if possible. A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "Following assessment, it has been found three lanes of the carriageway will need to be resurfaced, therefore only one lane is open at the current time. "National Highways are working to complete the work as quickly as possible, however the lane closures are expected to remain in place throughout rush hour and into the evening.

"We are continuing to urge motorists to avoid the area if possible."
