Lorry trailer flips and crashes into home near Bideford

A lorry trailer has flipped and crashed into a building near Bideford this evening (Monday, June 3). Pictures from Gammaton Road show the lorry on its side. The pictures show the damage caused after the lorry crashed through the side of the property at Gammaton Moor Cross.

Debris can be seen scattered across a bedroom as a result of the collision. Gammaton Road was closed following the crash and motorists have been urged to avoid the area. The closure is set to be in place for some time whilst the lorry is recovered.

An eyewitness told DevonLive: "A trailer carrying a massive container overturned and the container smashed into a house at Gammaton Cross. "The lorry was in its way to a solar farm nearby and has caused extensive damage to the property. They are hoping to recover the overturned trailer and remove the massive container this evening but extensive work has to be done first to prop up the building to prevent total collapse."

Devon Alert said in a post on X at 6.46pm: "Gammaton Road is currently closed at Gammaton Moor Cross due to an RTC. "This road is likely to remain closed for some time whilst recovery takes place. Please use alternative routes."
