Live: Chelsea Bridge closed after horror cyclist and lorry crash as investigation launched

A major bridge in London has been closed this morning (June 19) after an accident which has sparked an investigation. A cyclist is believed to be involved in the crash, but this has not yet been confirmed by the emergency services. According to traffic site Inrix, Chelsea Bridge has been closed in both direction between North Carriage Drive (Battersea) and Chelsea Embankment.

Congestion is piling up back to Grosvenor Road and Nine Elms Lane – to and from Vauxhall Bridge. There is also increased traffic over Battersea Bridge as drivers attempt to continue their journeys around the closure. Accident investigation work is underway as police vehicles have been spotted at the scene.

Traffic continues to queue up as the investigation is underway. Buses are in diversion in the area for routes 44, 137, and 452. The incident is believed to have happened at just after 8am this morning.

A cordon is in place at the scene and in a video seen by MyLondon a CitySightseeing tour bus appears to be stuck in the cordon along with a lorry. Follow our live blog below for the latest updates as we get them. Are you at the scene?
