Barrhead bridge replacement to cause road and rail disruption
The existing structure will be removed and a new bridge installed before engineers re-lay the track. According to NR, This work is vital to the long-term reliability of the railway and cannot be delivered without a short closure of the line. The work will also mean the closure of Gateside Road from 6pm this evening (Friday, June 28) until 7am on Monday, July 1.
Susan Menmuir, scheme project manager for Scotland’s Railway, said: “We understand the inconvenience this work will cause to our passengers and road users, and we are working hard to replace the bridge as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.” A diversionary route will be in place for pedestrians and vehicles via Graham Street, Cross Arthurlie Street, Kelburn Street and Lochlibo Road. A footpath under the rail bridge and one lane of the road have been closed since early June and will remain closed until Monday, July 29.
Tomorrow (Saturday, June 29) buses will replace trains between Glasgow Central and Barrhead/Kilmarnock. On Sunday, June 30 buses will run from Glasgow Central to Barrhead/Kilmarnock/Dumfries. Train services will resume on Monday, July 1.
