A2 Cobham crash: 50-year-old man dies

Kent Police were called to the A2 at Cobham to the coastbound carriageway on May 31 at around 4:41pm to a crash involving a van and a lorry. Police say that two lorries were parked on the hard shoulder, when a white Mercedes Sprinter van collided with one of the lorries "for no reason." The driver of the van, a 50-year-old man, died at the scene, his next of kin have been informed.

The passenger of the van, a 20-year-old man, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a serious condition. The driver of the lorry also sustained minor injuries. Officers from Kent[1] Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for information to come forward.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: "Kent Police[2] was called at 4.14pm on Friday 31 May 2024 to the coastbound carriageway following a collision involving a lorry and a van. "Two lorries were parked on the hard shoulder, when for unknown reasons a white Mercedes Sprinter van collided with one of the lorries.

"The driver of the van, a 50-year-old man died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. "The passenger, a 20-year-old man received serious injuries and was taken to a London hospital by air ambulance[3] where he remains in a serious condition.

"The driver of the lorry received minor injuries.

"Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles beforehand to call the SCIU witness appeal line on 01622 798538, or email [email protected] quoting EX/HG/058/24.

"Dashcam footage can also be submitted here: Evidence Request from Kent Police and Essex Police[4]."
