Pedestrian, 24, dies in A50 crash after being hit by lorry

Police[1] are appealing for witnesses after a 24-year-old man died following a collision with a truck on the A50.[2] Emergency services were called to the stretch of the carriageway through Uttoxeter[3] in the early hours of Saturday morning. As reported by StokeonTrentLive,[4] police officers had carried out 'basic life support' to the man, a pedestrian. West Midlands Ambulance Service[5], which sent two ambulances to the scene, say that sadly the man was later confirmed dead at the scene. Now police are appealing for any motorists who were travelling through the area from 1.45am onwards on Saturday, May 11 to get in touch.

The collision resulted in the westbound carriageway between the Ashbourne Road and Derby Road roundabouts being closed off for a number of hours. Staffordshire Police say they were called to the scene just after 2.40am. A police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a HGV on the A50 westbound between the Derby Road roundabout and the McDonald's roundabout.

Sadly, the pedestrian, a 24-year-old man, died at the scene. The driver of the HGV was not injured. The man's family are being supported by specialist officers.

We are keen to speak to anyone who was traveling in this area, along the A50 from 1.45am onwards on Saturday in particular, with any dashcam footage which could help collision investigators." A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an incident on the A50 on Saturday morning,. Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and two North Staffordshire BASICS doctors attended the scene.

On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was in a critical condition and already receiving basic life support from police colleagues. Ambulance staff began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone's best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene." Witnesses should call Staffordshire Police[8] on 101 and quote incident number 129 of May 11.
