M40 closed near Leamington after ‘serious collision’ with lorry and car

The M40 remains closed northbound in Warwickshire following a "serious collision" between a car and a lorry. The motorway is shut between junctions 12 and 13, with Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service all at the scene. Emergency services were first called at 3am.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service had left scene at 4:15am, while National Highways officers attended the scene to treat a spillage in lane one. "Warwickshire Police remain at scene to complete collision investigations due to the serious nature of the incident, once this is complete recovery of the vehicles and clear up work will take place," a National Highways update said. "There's currently no estimate available for when the road is likely to re-open and road users are advised to expect disruption and allow extra time for their journey's in and through the area.

"Traffic caught within the closure was initially released slowly passed the scene in lane three by Warwickshire Police, however once collision investigators started working this was halted with traffic now being turned and released via the rear of the queue."

The closure is reportedly having an impact on the local road network.

Warwickshire Police has also told locals to "avoid the area and follow any diversions that are in place".
