A50 lorry crash leaves car on its side, driver hurt and road shut

A woman has been treated by paramedics after her car was left on its side following a collision with a truck on the A50 [1]. Police [2] and paramedics [3] were called out to the stretch near Heron Cross - with the road subsequently closed off. StokeonTrentLive reported at the time [4] how yesterday evening's closure of the eastbound carriageway triggered delays on surrounding roads in the city. Today and West Midlands Ambulance Service [5] has confirmed the woman from the overturned Renault was treated at the scene.

Two ambulances were sent to the scene along with the police just before 5.50pm yesterday. An ambulance service spokeswoman said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry at the junction of the A50 for Heron Cross. Two ambulances attended the scene.

Upon arrival we found a woman who was the driver of the car which had overturned. She was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. She received self-care advice from ambulance staff before being discharged at the scene."

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police [6] added: "We went to the A50 following a collision involving a lorry and a grey Renault. A woman, the driver of the Renault, was treated at the scene by paramedics and did not require hospital treatment. The driver of the lorry stayed at the scene to help us with enquiries."
