Texas crash: Multiple victims as 18-wheel truck chased by police crashes into office

Multiple people have been injured after an 18-wheel truck that was chased by police smashed into a building[1], authorities say. The building houses the Department of Public Safety office in Brenham, located about 75 miles (120 kilometres) west of Houston, Texas. No fatalities have been confirmed as of yet.

The office's Southeast Texas Region urged people to stay clear of the area as investigators and medical personnel responded to the scene. In a post on X (Twitter[2]), they said: "A commercial motor vehicle ran into the Brenham DPS Office, and there are reports of multiple serious injuries. PIO is headed to the scene.

Please stay clear of the area as investigators and medical personnel respond to the area." Reports claim that the crash was intentional rather than an accident and that a suspect is in custody. Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough wrote on Facebook that the suspect acted after being denied a Commercial Driver License (CDL) by the department.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident and there is no further threat, DPS officials said Friday. Officials said there are reports of multiple serious injuries but did not specify how many people were affected or the extent of the injuries. Pictures showed a large, red tractor-trailer hauling material on a flatbed in the parking lot of the building.

The front end of the 18-wheeler was damaged and covered with debris from the front doors of the office. Debris was also scattered out front near a gaping hole in the entrance. For all the latest news, politics, sports, and showbiz from the USA, go to The Mirror US[4]

Mark Keough County Judge wrote in a post on Facebook[5]: "Pray for our Texas DPS as they're experiencing a mass casualty incident in Brenham with a major vehicle accident at their office. No word on injuries at this time. "Update: I have been briefed and this incident was intentional and done by the suspect who was denied a CDL yesterday.

He returned today with intent to harm. Continued prayers for the DPS staff, troopers and civilians affected." Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Glenn Hegar also wrote on X (Twitter): "Dara and I are praying for the injured and all those impacted.

Please heed the advice of local officials, emergency personnel, and @TxDPS and other law enforcement agencies. Stay clear and allow them to respond to the situation without other distractions." We'll be bringing you the very latest updates, pictures and videos on this breaking news story.
