Police carry out reconstruction of lorry crash that killed cyclist

A crash involving a lorry that killed a cyclist in East Dunbartonshire is being reconstructed by police. Una Brandreth, from the Stafford area of England, died at the scene of a collision with an HGV on Manse Road at the junction with Drymen Road in Bearsden on the morning of March 19. A silent vigil was held by local residents last month for the 56-year-old mother and an online petition launched with more than 2,000 signatures calling for improved road safety in the area after a spate of incidents.

Police Scotland announced officers were carrying out a physical and digital reconstruction of the crash, and that the families of those involved have been notified. The male driver of the lorry was not injured in the crash.

As part of the reconstruction, a contraflow system will be put in place in the area with Drymen Road expected to remain open for the majority of the exercise. Sergeant Chris Hoggans said: "This reconstruction will enable us to fully establish the cause of the collision which led to Una's death.

"My thoughts remain with her family, and we continue to appeal to anyone with any information or dash cam footage to get in touch." Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 0590 of March 19, 2024.

A statement from Ms Brandreth's family released by Police Scotland last month read: "Una was a much-loved sister, mother, and daughter, and will be much missed by everyone who knew her.

"We are asking for privacy at what is a very difficult time for us all as we come to terms with our loss.

"We would like to say that we are massively grateful to all the emergency services that were involved in this tragic incident and to everybody else that stopped to help Una."
