M6 driver stopped as police find kids loose on back seat

A driver had their vehicle seized on the M6 after police officers spotted children in the back seat seemingly not using car seats or seatbelts. The vehicle was stopped on the motorway by officers from the Central Motorway Police Group today, Tuesday, April 23. Checks showed the driver did not have a driving licence and was not insured.

A Central Motorway Police Group officer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and posted an image of two children on the back seat with no car seats and not appearing to have seatbelts on. Their faces were hidden by emojis An older female was also pictured on the back seat, again with her face obscured.

She appeared to be wearing pyjamas and holding a phone and milk bottle with a tot on her lap. In the post on X the CMPG said: "If you think this is an acceptable way to transport your children on the M6 we will stop you. Sadly, this driver didn't have a driving licence or insurance either so it's been seized.

Relevant safeguard referrals put in place too."

Members of the public responding to the post were outraged. Kaz said: "Great work and this is disgraceful behaviour from the adults putting kids at risk." John said: "They should be shown graphic images of what happens when you crash with no seatbelts to make them think. They do it in other countries."

Debbie Whaley said: "Utterly no regard for their safety. A seatbelt on would have been better than nothing." Hayley Sutcliffe simply said: "Unbelievable." 'Coasty29' said: "I wouldn't take my friend's child in the car as I didn't have a car seat, so I purchased one for the odd occasion.

No license or insurance should they be in charge of children."
