A380 serious lorry and car crash leaves two in hospital as air ambulance lands
Two people have been taken to hospital after a serious crash between a lorry and a car on the A380. The road between Kingsteignton and Newton Abbot[1] has been closed southbound since just after 9am today (Tuesday, April 16) when the collision near the Eagle Farm junction was first reported. Traffic is queuing is still queuing on the road and drivers have been urged to avoid the area while emergency services are at the scene.
A Devon Air Ambulance was also sent to the scene and landed on the northbound carriageway, before taking off again and heading towards Derriford Hospital in Plymouth[2]. The northbound carriageway was closed while the air ambulance landed, but has reopened now. Multiple ambulances and fire crews were also photographed making their way through queuing vehicles.
Two people suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said. They told DevonLive: "Police were notified at around 9.10am this morning to reports of a collision between a lorry and a car on the A380 Southbound at Kingsteignton. The Northbound was closed to allow the Air Ambulance to land.
Two people have been seriously injured and taken to hospital." An eyewitness at the scene was reportedly told by an emergency service worker that the A380 southbound is likely to remain closed for some time. Devon Alert, a social media account of Devon County Council[3] said: "The A380 is currently closed in both directions between Wapperwell Junction and Sandygate Kingsteignton following an RTC.
Please find an alternative route and expect delays."

Traffic monitor Inrix reports: "A380 Besigheim Way Southbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident from The B3195 (Sandygate) to Ware Barton Roundabout ( Kingsteignton ). In the roadworks area. Sensors show that the northbound side of the road has now reopened, but the southbound side remains closed."
