Pininfarnia unveils hybrid hydrogen ICE and electric motor-powered concept vehicle

Italian car manufacturer Pininfarnia has showcased its hydrogen-powered Enigma GT at the 2024 Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland. The 2+2-seater vehicle's rear wheels will be powered by a hydrogen internal combustion engine (ICE), coupled with an 150kW electric motor at the front axle to configure an all-wheel drive (AWD) setup. The 2.5 litre vehicle has a range of up to 500km and its design allowed for a neutral technological approach, enabling the implementation of the mid-rear hydrogen ICE engine.

With a combined power of 475kW, the vehicle can reach speeds of up to 250km per hour (155 mph) and go from 0-100km per hour in less than four seconds. Pininfarnia's Chief Creative Officer, Felix Kilbertus, claimed that the hydrogen-powered vehicle is an "open invitation to re-invent the future together." "We decided to start by exploring one of the best automotive canvasses around," explained Kilbertus. "A 2+2 with desirable, exotic looks, done the Italian way - the Pininfarnia way - exuding purity of design, elegance and Italian flair.

"It is an ongoing study, an optimistic work in progress that speaks of our confidence in the future and the charm of the automobile." In 2022, the company announced a prototype for its hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) SUV in collaboration with NAMX, partially fuelled by interchangeable fuel tanks. The 'HUV' boasts up to 550bhp in its top end version, worth EUR95,000 (£99,900), whilst the rear-wheel-drive 300bhp version's price starts at EUR65,000 (£68,300).

The Enigma GT concept price in the UK is reported to be GBP556,950 (£702,617), according to CcarPrice. H2 View subscription If you're looking to upgrade your H2 View experience, check out our subscription packages and unlock nearly FIVE YEARS of content. [2]
