Major UK motorway to shut for 57 with drivers told ‘stay away’

The M25 is set to close for 57 hours around a new GBP317m junction[1] as drivers are being told to "stay away". The M25 will close five times from March in delays lasting WEEKS - with the first closure lasting a whopping 57 hours for drivers and motorists. National Highways said:[2] "Last weekend we closed the A3 for a full weekend and demolished two bridges.

Our next weekend closure will be for more demolition work, this time on the M25. It means the M25 between junctions 10 and 11 will be closed in both directions from 9pm on Friday 15 to 6am Monday 18 March." "We carefully plan all our closures to limit disruption, but sometimes it's not possible to carry out all the work that's needed without a closure.

We have planned all our closures to avoid holiday periods and key events in the area," it went on to add.

"The work needs to be carried out now to continue the good progress on the delivery of the scheme which is due to open to traffic next summer." Junction 10 is the busiest section of the M25 with over 300,000 vehicles passing through every day. The scheme will improve safety and journey times, reduce congestion, smooth the flow of traffic, increased capacity, provide better connections and improve access for cyclists, pedestrians and horse-riders.

It will also support local and national economic growth, National Highways said. The local diversion route will be in place which is the same for both directions. It will be, from Junction 10 - Junction 11, a diversion North bound A3 to Painshill Junction, A245 towards Woking, and then A320 to M25 Junction 11.

For Junction 11 the diversion will be Junction 10: A320 south towards Woking, A245 towards Byfleet and Painshill junction, Southbound A3 to Junction 10.
