Just before 9.15am, we went to the southbound carriageway between junctions 14 and 13, after reports that two heavy goods vehicles had collided. "Crews used specialist equipment to free the driver from one of the vehicles. He was taken to hospital by paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service.
After making sure everyone was safe, we left the scene in the care of colleagues from the Central Motorway Police Group and National Highways." West Midlands Ambulance Service[5] say one trucker had to be freed by firefighters. A spokeswoman said: "Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a critical care car from Midland Air Ambulance attended the scene.
Upon arrival we found a man who was the driver of one of the lorries. He was extricated from the vehicle by the fire service. "Once extricated, he was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained potentially serious injuries.
He received treatment at the scene and was conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment. The second driver did not require assessment."
