M4: Person dies in car and lorry crash

A person died following a crash between a car and a lorry on the M4. Emergency services were called to the collision between junction 18 for Bath and junction 19 for Bristol at around 1pm this afternoon (March 26). The motorway was closed in both directions as police and paramedics responded to the crash.

Sadly, one person was pronounced dead at the scene and a further four people were taken to hospital. Avon and Somerset Police have issued a public appeal for information on the crash. Officers are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage.

Police said: "The motorway was closed in both directions to allow emergency services to respond. Both carriageways have now been reopened. We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we have carried necessary investigative work.

"If you witnessed the collision, or have any information or relevant footage which could aid our investigation, please call us.

If you can help, please call 101[3] and give the call handler the reference number 5224077629, or complete our online appeals form[4]."
