M1 live updates as overturned lorry causes delays northbound between junction 23 and 23A

Motorists are facing delays this morning as two lanes of the M1 northbound remain closed due to an overturned lorry. Two lanes of the busy motorway are shut[1] between junction 23 and 23A during rush hour on Friday, March 8. The northbound carriageway was initially fully closed and drivers were informed of the closure by National Highways: East Midlands which has released a statement on social media.

Posted on X, formerly Twitter, at 6.50am, it reads: "The M1 is CLOSED northbound between[2] J23 and J23A near Loughborough due to an overturned Heavy Goods Vehicle. "National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene. More info to follow." Junction 23A leads to East Midlands Airport in Castle Donington, while junction 23 is for Loughborough.
