A man is reported to have died after the truck he was driving collided with a tree on the N30 in Wexford at approximately 11.15am on Sunday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a fatal accident near Clonroche today.

Gardai and ambulances arrived at the scene at Leeches Bend, on the New Ross side of Clonroche shortly afterwards and the road was closed, with diversions put in place.

The stretch of road has been highlighted as dangerous many times in the past and local resident, Fine Gael Cllr Bridin Murphy has expressed her deep disappointment that the National Roads Authority has not taken action to improve the road for drivers' safety.

"My thoughts are with the driver's family who lost his life this morning at Leeches Bend," she said.

"There has been an increase in the frequency of accidents on that bend - this has been raised with the National Roads Authority constantly and nothing has been done to increase safety measures on the bend," said Cllr Murphy.

"This isn't good enough and questions need to be answered as to why they have not done anything."
