Lorry crashes into level crossing causing train delays
A Cambridgeshire road was blocked on Monday (March 25) after a lorry crashed into a level crossing in Holme. Station Road was partially blocked in both directions after the incident, which caused a level crossing failure. A Cambridgeshire Police[1] spokesperson said: “British Transport Police notified us at about 10.35am that a lorry hit a level crossing barrier in Station Road, Holme.”
While Station Road was cleared by 1.40pm, a Network Rail spokesperson said the crossing was still closed to traffic as of 2.30pm on March 25. This was to allow workers to put a replacement barrier in place.
The incident caused train delays between Stevenage[4] and Peterborough[5] for more than two hours.
This disruption ended just before 1pm, according to National Rail. Inrix, the traffic data company, reported at 11.23am: “Station Road in both directions partially blocked, slow traffic due to accident and level crossing failure around Yaxley Road.” Inrix said the road had been cleared just before 1.40pm.
