The A78 was closed overnight in both directions between Skelmorlie and Largs due to tidal flooding due to high water breaking over the sea wall.
McGills bus 578 from Greenock at 11.15pm and from Largs at midnight were cancelled due to flooding on the coastal route.
The A78 was reopened at 4.10am this morning after floodwater was cleared.
Earlier in the evening, a wall collapsed on the A78 from Skelmorlie heading to Largs on a bend on the road.
A tree also fell partially on the road, with the matter being reported to roads maintenance company Amey, who are responsible for the trunk road.
Meigle resident Archie Burleigh said: “An Amey grab lorry removed the collapsed wall at Ashcraig gatehouse and the road was cleared.
“The A78 gates were closed at Buchanan Street and Skelmorlie when the waves were starting to wash on to the road.”
Footage by Ian Rutherford shows the storm from Largs seafront last night with waves lashing off the pier.
