Man appears in court after lorry crashes into bridge on the A12

A man has appeared in court following an incident in which a lorry collided with a bridge[1] and the central reservation on the A12. The incident took place on Monday (February 5) on the southbound carriageway of the A-road between junctions 22 for Rivenhall and 21 for Witham.

The crash resulted in several hours of road closures and diverted traffic and the driver of the lorry, Dicho Dichev, 30 of Pentland Close, Edmonton, London, was arrested at the scene. He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court the following day (February 6), where he admitted failing to provide a specimen, and will appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on May 7.

A statement from Essex Police said: “A man has appeared in court in connection with a single-vehicle collision in Witham. On Monday 5 February a lorry was in collision with a bridge and the central reservation on the southbound carriageway of the A12 near Witham.

“The road was closed southbound between junctions 22 for Rivenhall and 21 for Witham for several hours. The HGV driver was arrested at the scene.”
