Driver in trouble as dramatic smash shuts M6 junction and sparks A500 queues

A motorist escaped without any serious injuries after his car was left wrecked following a smash at the M6's[1] junction in the Potteries. But the driver found himself in trouble with police after he was found to have 'no insurance'.

StokeonTrentLive reported how the smash near Junction 15 in Hanchurch left the northbound entry slip road shut off from around 8.45am through to just before 12.50pm. During the height of the incident, it also triggered queues on the A500.[2][3]

Now officers with Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) have released an image of all that remained of the car they found perched on a barrier. In a post on X - formerly Twitter - the cops say the driver has been reported on suspicion of having no insurance.
