A30: Car and lorry crash leaving man fighting for life

The man, who is in his 20s, was driving a blue Mini Cooper which hit a blue Volvo articulated lorry at around 4pm yesterday afternoon (February 20).

He was rushed to Southemead Hospital in Bristol with injuries that are believed to be 'life threatening', according to police. His family has been informed.

The crash took place between Sherborne and Yeovil on the A30 at Babylon Hill , which resulted in Dorset Police closing the road. The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward who may have seen the crash near the junction with Marl Lane.

Sergeant Mark Scammell, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I am appealing to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.

“I would also like to hear from any motorists who may have captured any relevant dashcam footage.

The road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded to the incident and an examination of the collision scene was conducted. The closures were lifted at around 11.20pm.

Sergeant Scammell added: “Finally, I appreciate this incident led to the closure of a main road for a period of several hours and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while this was in place.

"The closure was necessary to allow emergency services to safely respond and for a detailed examination of the collision scene to be carried out.”
