Sub-zero temperatures with snow and ice forecasts[2] will bring further disruption to roads, rails and ferries in the Highlands today[3] (January 16).

This comes as a yellow weather warning in place across the North of Scotland has been extended to the rest of the country.

Changes to train services between Inverness and the Central Belt will continue today as trains will avoid crossing at Carrbridge, Slochd, Tomatin and Moy, with some trains being terminated at Perth and delays of around 30 minutes on the line.

Stagecoach Highland[4] announced that all services in Caithness have been suspended because of the weather. Services in other areas remain operational but might be delayed or be subject to disruption across the day.

Ferries between Ullapool and Stornoway[5] have resumed however operator CalMac stated no horses will be carried and livestock will be allowed on a case by case basis. Freight services will also possibly be disrupted.

Services between Caithness and Orkney are also due to be back to operate according to their normal timetable, however some disruption may occurr throughout the day.
