Rains and winds up to 70mph set to batter Surrey as Met Office issue weather warning
Very windy conditions and heavy rain is expected in Surrey in the latest Met Office weather warning. A 28-hour warning for rain is in place between 5pm on Monday (New Year's Day) and 9pm on Tuesday (January 2).
The wind warning is in place between 8am and 9pm on Tuesday. Parts of Surrey included in the warning include Guildford[1] and Woking[2].
The Met Office said: "In coastal areas winds are likely to gust towards 60 mph at times, with a lower likelihood of 70 mph gusts. Inland gusts of 40 to 50 mph are likely but with a smaller chance of 55 to 60 mph gusts, although the extent of such gusts carries low confidence at present. This windy weather will be accompanied by heavy rain in places."
The Met Office said flooding of some homes and businesses is possible, while spray and flooding on roads could make journey times longer. It added: "Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer."
As a result of strong winds, delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely and damage to trees is possible. Some short-term loss of power and other services is possible while there may be delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.
