Person dies after being hit by a train in Nottinghamshire
A person has died after being hit by a train between Newark and Lincoln. The emergency services were called to Newark Northgate railway station[1] at around 3.45pm yesterday (Tuesday, January 9) after reports of an incident on the tracks.
British Transport Police[2] have now confirmed that a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
The incident caused travel services to be disrupted with the line between Newark and Lincoln[3] to be closed. Emergency services and Network Rail were both at the scene of the incident with rail replacement buses organised for affected passengers.
The line between Newark and Lincoln reopened shortly before 7pm on January 9. British Transport Police have now issued a short statement.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Newark Northgate railway station at around 3.45pm yesterday (9 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
