Man dies after M4 crash – Thames Valley Police appeal for witnesses to incident on Sunday night between Swindon and Hungerford

A man has died after a collision on the M4 last night (Sunday).[1]

And Thames Valley Police is now appealing for witnesses following the incident on the motorway in West Berkshire.

At around 9.40pm yesterday (January 7) a pedestrian – who is believed to have been earlier driving a grey Hyundai Iconic - was struck as they were crossing the carriageway.

The incident happened on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 between junction 15 at Swindon and junction 14 at Hungerford.

Sadly, the pedestrian, a man in his eighties, has died from his injuries.

The carriageway was closed throughout the evening and most of today while recovery and crash investigation work took place.

Investigating officer Sgt Lyndsey Blackaby, of the joint operations roads policing unit, said: “We are investigating this collision in which a man has tragically died.

“Our condolences and thoughts are with their loved ones. The man’s next of kin has been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage or witness information to please come forward, calling 101 or reporting online[4], quoting reference 432400009724.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience while we conducted our enquiries.”
