Lorry driver recorded performing unsafe overtake on cyclist

Edward Huggins, 30, of Parc Meiros in Drefach Felindre, was driving a Scania heavy goods vehicle on the A484 at Carmarthen on June 16. He approached a cyclist who was travelling in the same direction.

Huggins went to overtake the cyclist, but there was a vehicle approaching in the opposite direction. The court heard that the lorry passed the cyclist at an unsafe distance, and the cyclist had to swerve to avoid being hit by the defendant.

The incident was caught on the cyclist’s camera.

Huggins did not appear at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on January 3, and he was found guilty after the offence of driving without due care and attention was proved in his absence.

He was fined £440, and was ordered to pay £110 in costs and a £176 surcharge. Huggins also had six points added to his licence.
