Llandudno bar cordoned off after major police response
A Llandudno pub was cordoned off as a large police presence descended on the Conwy[1] resort last night. Fountains Bar and Café was reportedly evacuated following an incident in the early hours of this morning.
Witnesses reported seeing a person lying on the pavement outside the popular bar on Upper Mostyn Street. The nature of the incident has not been disclosed but it solicited a large response from the emergency services.
Bystanders reported seeing nine police vehicles at the scene, along with an ambulance and a paramedic rapid response car. One person claimed the incident had began shortly after 1am, another said it appeared to be still ongoing at 3am.
One witness said: “There was a massive police presence there. They evacuated the pub and cordoned off the whole area. I was told by someone at the scene that a person had been lifted to an ambulance, which had driven away slowly.
“Apparently they’d been tended to by both police and ambulance staff on the floor outside. I couldn’t tell how serious the incident was. But for the police to shut the pub and cordon it off gives you some idea.”
North Wales Police[4], the Welsh Ambulance Service[5] and Fountains have been approached for a comment.

Fountains Bar and Café closed in January 2023 following a New Year’s Eve party – a repossession notice was posted on the front door. It later sold at auction for £453,000, almost double the guide price, to businessman Phillip Ashe.

In August the premises fully reopened after its new owner was granted permission to sell alcohol[7] by Conwy Council’s[8] licensing committee. Under the terms of the licence, the bar is permitted to open from 9am to midnight, except on Fridays and Saturdays when it can stay open until 2.30am.

During the licensing process, several neighbours voiced concerns about the potential for noise and anti-social behaviour[9]. But Mr Ashe, who has run several pubs in the area, revised the bar’s opening hours and pledged to monitor noise levels.
On December 27, Colwyn Bay[10]-based Guardian Protection Unit announced it had been appointed to provide security at the Fountains. The company provides door supervision, residential security and other services to more than 25 clients in North Wales.
