Investigation launched after rocks thrown at lorries on M6
A statement from Cumbria police said they are investigating the incident which happened around 8.15pm on January 5, in Carlisle[1].
A spokesperson from the force said: “Four HGVs were struck by rocks thrown by an unknown person(s) off Garlands footbridge which passes over the M6 between junctions 43 and 42.
“All four HGVs were travelling south at the time of the incident.
“No one was injured, however, damage was caused to all four vehicles.
“Three HGVs sustained smashed windscreens and one HGV had a rock thrown directly through a sunroof, narrowly missing both the driver and passenger as it landed in the cab.
“It is believed that the suspect/s were recording the incident on their mobile phone whilst committing the offence.
“Police would like to speak to anyone that has information which could assist with this investigation or anyone that has seen a video of the offence being committed.
“Throwing items off motorway bridges at moving traffic is extremely dangerous and anyone caught committing offences of this nature will be dealt with robustly.”
