Four people stranded as emergency services surround beauty spot

A group of people were rescued after becoming stranded on a island.

Four people and a dog were stranded on Middle Eye of Hilbre Island in West Kirby[1] on Sunday, December 31. They became stuck after one person started to have severe breathing difficulties.

Emergency services were called and a lifeboat was sent out. The man was given first aid at the scene. He was safely rescued before being rushed to A&E by North West Ambulance Service.

All of the group, including dog Enzo, were safely rescued. A spokesperson for the RNLI West Kirkby[4] Lifeboat said: “West Kirby Lifeboat was called out today for four people and a dog on Middle Eye.

“They called 999 when one of their party started to have severe breathing difficulties. The lifeboat was soon out to him and he was taken under the wing of our RNLI casualty carers. We gave him first aid and got him ashore where we handed him over to the expert care of North West Ambulance Service who took him to A&E.

“It was Tom’s first shout as Helm, so he got to Ring the Bell. Good job Thomas. The Dog ‘Enzo’ enjoyed his ride back in the boat, but I’m not sure our crew was happy when it was announced that, ‘he doesn’t like people wearing bright colours’. Suddenly the D-Class felt smaller than normal.”
