Exact date disruptive roadworks near Maidstone Hospital will end as drivers told to avoid area

Disruptive roadworks are causing "major" delays for motorists heading to Maidstone Hospital.[1] Temporary traffic lights were installed on the B2246 Hermitage Lane in Aylesford on January 2.

The lights are in place at the retail park access to allow Walker Construction to complete water mains installation works. These works are scheduled to be completed by 5pm next Friday (January 19).

Kent County Council's (KCC) Highways team has warned drivers to expect delays in the area. Drivers have described the traffic caused by the lights as "chaos", and have reported drastically increased journey times.

The Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust has warned: “Roadworks in Hermitage Lane, Aylesford, are causing major traffic delays due to temporary three-way traffic lights. The works are expected to last until January 19.

"Avoid this area if possible. Plan alternative routes and allow extra time when travelling to Maidstone Hospital.” A similar message has been shared by Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS trust.

KCC Highways has branded the works as being of "high" severity and has reported slow moving traffic on Hermitage Lane between Maidstone Hospital and the A20 this week. Traffic cameras show traffic along the A20 London Road is also being impacted by the works, with congestion in the area and delays to journeys likely.
