Disbelief as Mercedes gets stuck on West Country beach
This is the moment a Mercedes got stuck on a West Country beach this weekend. Despite being the middle of January and having a car park at their disposal, the silver Mercedes was driven onto the beach[1] in Newquay – but got trapped.
Numerous attempts were made to pull the car from the sand before the impending tide came in. The AA and a 4×4 tried to tow the car and got nowhere. It wasn’t until a local hero in a tractor came to the rescue and pulled the car from the sand trap.
Towan beach in Newquay seems to be the perfect spot for people assuming it is safe to drive vehicles onto the sand. Last year, numerous people found themselves trapped after driving cars onto the beach, four happened in one day[2] during peak summer season.
But, as yesterday proves, it does not need to be summer for drivers to think they can park up on the beach and then drive away after a day at the seaside. One local resident, Verity Woodhall, has taken footage of the stuck car and the various vehicles that came to rescue it from the sand.

The pictures show the car in different positions on the beach, suggesting that the AA and 4×4 managed to move the car but not rescue it. Having posted pictures on social media, it was not long before locals had a field day.
One person joked: “May not always be in summer, but it is always Mercedes drivers”.
Another person wrote: “Got to feel an absolute t**t getting stuck on a beach. What goes through someone’s mind to try driving on a beach”.

A third commented: “Summer has started early! Should just leave them and sit and watch the tide do it’s work”.
A fourth added: “I just don’t understand why people do this, baffles me. Hope they get it out anyway looks like a nice car”.
