Co Derry getaway named one of the ‘best remote stays’ in the UK
A quirky getaway just off the north coast has been named as one of the UK’s ‘best remote stays’.
The new list generated by The Times rounds up some of the best places offering “seclusion in style” for those wanting a trip away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The Times said: “Going off-grid in our ‘always-on’ world is never easy. But, following December — aka the most sociable month of the year — it’s never felt more appealing.
“So we’ve found the spots that feel a million miles from anywhere and anyone. Here are the top rural retreats where you can shun technology and have a good excuse to ignore the pings from your inbox.”
The only Northern Irish spot to feature in the top seven, a restored horsebox outside Coleraine has been recommended for its endearing style and unique accommodation.
Set on private farmland, The Oat Box provides a luxurious haven of peace and tranquility to escape from the world for a little while.
A 1968 Bedford TK Horse Lorry has been converted into guest accommodation for to adults using repurposed materials to create a cosy, welcoming hideaway.
The Times said: “Every little nook and cranny has been used in this 1970s restored horsebox with a bed tucked above the driver’s cab to create space for a plush velvet sofa, as well as a kitchenette with a sink made from an old copper jam pan.
“It’s clad with reclaimed wood from an old church vestry, and the interiors are an endearing mix of vintage and slightly chintzy design.
“There’s no TV or wi-fi, just a fire pit outside and endless fields to wander through. Giant’s Causeway is less than a 15-minute drive away.”
