The closure, which came into effect at 10am this morning, will remain in place while work to remove level crossing panels is completed, to allow Network Rail to replace rails, renew ballast, tamp ballast, and to reinstate level crossing panels.

The road will remain closed from its junction with the C1107 Torroble Road to its junction with C1066 Rhian Breck – Tomich Road until 6am on January 18.

An alternative route has been made available via A837 and A839 routes.

A spokesperson for Highland Council said: “From 10pm on January 16, 2024 to 6am on January 18, 2024 the A836 Dornoch Bridge – Tongue Road, Lairg will be closed from its junction with the C1107 Torroble Road to its junction with the C1066 Rhian Breck – Tomich Road. The road closure is necessary to allow Network Rail to refit the rail crossing.

“To avoid the road closure an alternative route will be available via the A837 Invershin – Lochinver Road and A839 Mound – Lairg – Rosehall Road.”
