Work nearing completion on 84 new homes near Yate
Work is nearing completion for The Great Oaks development in Engine Common, which includes three and four bedroom homes.
It is understood that the homes will be ready for occupation mid next year.
The properties - which are located off North Road - will all be zero-carbon and packed with renewable energy features.
This includes high levels of insulation, solar panels for electricity generation, air source heat pumps for hot water and heating plus electric car charging points.
Housing developer Newland Homes say they hope the properties will reduce reliance on fossil fuels, providing a cleaner and greener alternative to homeowners.
The site will also include four bungalows as well as a play area, cycle hub and community allotments.
A unique piece of public art in the heart of the development has also been created to commemorate the area’s industrial past.
Designed by Adam Blencowe the artwork has been named ‘The Great Beam’.
It references the beam engine that once operated on an adjacent piece of land near the development.
Marcus Evans, sales and marketing director for Newland Homes, said: “We have a long and established connection with Engine Common and the surrounding area.
“We’re pleased to be returning with our innovative zero carbon homes, which have been widely heralded as the future for housing thanks to their use of renewable energy.”
A showhome and marketing suite will open on site in February/March 2024.
